Ahh, the good old days of sun worship when we would grease up our bodies with nothing but the best tanning oil in the world, baby oil of course (not). We all desired a quick, golden tan and baby oil was the miracle product. Well not exactly. Instead of looking like golden goddesses my friends and I looked more like red lobsters (not quite the look we were going for obviously!) Not only did we look terrible but the pain from the sunburn was something to remember and I don't mean that in a good way.
I have learned a lot from my silly, youthful mistakes, although my skin still has not forgiven me. One thing I have learned is that baby oil is DEFINITELY not a good choice for sun tan lotion and that you really need to wear sunblock to help prevent future skin damage which include;
B's LEAST FAVORITE SIGNS OF SUN DAMAGE
5. Age spots
4. Dry, thin and fragile skin
3. Uneven skin tone
2. Skin cancer
And the number one beauty reason to wear sunblock is........WRINKLES!
Reality check
I know that we should not go out into the sun without our sunblock and that tanning is bad for us but the reality is that some of us really enjoy getting a tan at the beach. When I do go to the beach I wear sunscreen with an SPF of 8 on my body. This still allows me to get a nice tan without getting a sunburn. However, I do wear a facial sunblock with a much higher SPF to protect my face from getting one of my favorite signs of sun damage. How do I combat the difference in color between my face and body? That's easy, I use a bronzing powder or bronzing cream (no one will be able to tell the difference).
Protect yourself
Products worthy to add to your sun protection collection are Shisiedo Ultimate Sun Protection SPF 55 for the face. (F.Y.I. This product is a Sephora favorite). Clinique has a continuous body spray called Clinique Sun SPF25 which goes on evenly and provides great sun protection. You can go for an old favorite such as Coppertone's Dry Oil Spray which has a lower SPF, smells nice and is offered at a great price.
