RETIN- A Retin-A has long been the gold standard in treating acne related skin issues but it also has many other anti-aging skin benefits. So, as I am rapidly approaching 40, I have taking a great interest in anti-aging treatments such as Retin-A. I of course did my research on Retin-A and I thought that I would share my findings with you. I will leave one of the links that I read for you at the bottom of this post.
SIANARA SUNSPOTS AND WRINKLES!
Retin-A has been shown to improve skin's texture because it helps retain collagen. Collagen as we all know is vital in maintaining firmness and elasticity. It keeps skin from sagging and drooping. Retin-A increases skin cell turnover which is great for removing black and whiteheads, evening out dark skin spots and helping to diminish wrinkles. All these benefits together help skin regain its youthfulness by giving you smooth, even toned younger looking skin. So if Retin-A does all these wonderful things then why aren't we all slathering over our faces nightly? Because as wonderful as Retin-A is you need to be VERY careful when using it!!
TAKE IT EASY
Before you run out and start a Retin-A regime you need to understand some of the side effects of using it. Retin-A increases skin cell turnover and what happens is many users will experience dry, flaky skin. Start by applying a VERY thin layer of Retin-A cream once every third night. Once skin becomes more tolerant then you can increase how often you apply it. When washing your face be sure to use a mild cleanser and a facecloth to remove dry flaky skin. You ABSOLUTY must wear a moisturizer, preferable one with sunscreen in it to prevent dryness. Your skin becomes very sensitive to sunlight when using Retin-A so it is best to avoid direct sunlight and always be sure to wear a sunscreen to prevent skin discoloration and damage.
PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE
I have also learned that many users have experienced dry, flaky skin from using Retin-A containing products for the first 6 weeks of use. However, the good news is that after 24 weeks ( I know it sounds like a long time but I think it is worth the wait) most users have experienced huge improvements in their skin. I have not yet decided on which Retin-A containing cream that I am going to try yet. But when I do make a decision I will let you know which one I chose. Please let me know if you have had any experiences with Retin-A. Till then! B.
