HAIR CARE TIPS FOR FINE-DRY AND CURLY HAIR
BRIT'S BORROWED BEAUTY BITS
I came across an article titled "Hair Force" from Allure Magazine by Sarah Van Boven that actually helps to improve your relationship with your hair (I have one of those love, hate relationships with my tresses). Rather than fighting you hair's natural texture the article teaches you how to work with and get along with your hair's natural texture. Since the article is busting at the seams with information, too much for a blog post, I am going to share a highlight or two from the different hair types tips.
1.Fine feathered (haired) friends
Shampoo daily because scalp oil tends to travel quickly down fine hair and it will cause hair to look flat and limp. When it comes to styling products stick with a volumizing mousse or spray. Gels, waxes and creams tend to weigh hair down.
2. Thick hair (I am so jealous of you all!)
Use moisturizing shampoos and conditioners to prevent frizz and puffiness. After blow drying your hair glide a ceramic-plate flatiron to smooth strands. To "lighten" thick hair add a slight curl to your hair. "Blow dry 90% of your hair. Part your hair down the middle, mist with setting spray and twist each side into a low, loose bun". Use a diffuser to finish drying hair, wait 10 minutes then undo the buns and tousle hair.
3. Girls with curls
Shampoo as infrequently as possible. When you do wash your hair be sure to use a regular AND leave-in conditioner.Once a week use a keratin infused hair mask . To keep curls frizz-free, let hair air-dry and use a smoothing cream. Tame those wiry curls by wrapping random section of hair around a curling iron.
Please let me know what you think. Till then! B.

COLOR TREATED HAIR CARE
Love your hair color? Then learn how to save your fave shade by doing these simple color preserving hair care tips.
Fade-Resistant Hair ColorHow to care for color-treated tresses during spring and summer
By Emily Hebert | April 06, 2010 9:00 a.m
Elle Magazine on-line
Water and sun are synonymous with summer fun—and both will likely figure prominently in your spring getaway or summertime plans. Unfortunately, these elements can wreak havoc on color-treated hair. Even without the presence of chlorine or shampoo detergent, pure spring water can draw artificial color from strands (especially red-tinted ones). And UV rays from the sun can damage the already-vulnerable protein structure of color-treated tresses. But whereas donning the hood of a parka and washing hair less often might have sufficed in winter, warmer weather—and the accompanying boost in sunshine, outdoor activities, and pesky scalp oil—calls for an updated hair care routine. Here, tips for preserving color-treated tresses for beachside sports and walks in the park.
Use a Color-Depositing Shampoo and Conditioner Once a Week
To prolong your color and make salon touch-ups less frequent, invest in a color-depositing shampoo and conditioner like ones in the Davines Alchemic Collection. While the shampoos in the line contain UV filters and moisturizing agents, the conditioners help mend split-ends and are packed with pigment enhancers to help counteract fading. “Really blond hair has a tendency to yellow from sun damage, and the Silver Alchemic Shampoo and Conditioner has violet pigments to neutralize that,” says Naomi Knights, Davines color expert. (The Alchemic line also has options for red, golden, copper, chocolate, and tobacco-colored hair.)
Get a Professional Glaze or Keratin Protein Treatment
Hair is composed almost entirely of keratin, a tough, fibrous protein. But coloring hair can open up the cuticle, causing damage—and environmental stressors like water and sun can further deplete hair’s natural protein structure. Getting a post-color glaze is one way to combat damage (“A glaze brings hair back to its natural state and helps seal in color,” says Rick Wellman of Patrick Melville Salon).
And, says Javier, if strands are particularly damaged you can help reconstruct your hair's natural protein structure with a keratin protein treatment. A side benefit of the salon specialty: In addition to temporarily yielding healthier hair, it can also “reduce summer frizz and promote growth."

After a hit nail colour and sell-out body art, Peter Philips calls for the return of the lipstick. In an e-mail interview, he explains to SYIDA LIZTA AMIRUL IHSAN why he’s coaxing young women to give lipsticks a try
PETER Philips is the current King of Cosmetics and he deserves the throne.Style.com recently dubbed the global director for Chanel Make-up “rue Cambon’s resident beauty genius”, and for good reason: last year, his nail colour, the Jade Le Vernis was the object of beauty obsession with Internet prices going up four times the retail tag. Early this year, his temporary tattoo, glued to the models of Chanel Spring/Summer 2010 show, had a wait list on both sides of the Atlantic even before they hit the beauty floors as beauty mavens anticipate gluing Chanel motifs on their bodies for a fraction of the price of a piece of Chanel costume jewellery. And now, the Belgian make-up artist, who works very closely with the House’s fashion boss Karl Lagerfeld during fashion shows, casts his magic wand yet again with the launch of a new line of lipstick, Rouge Coco. Does he feel the pressure to create another hit? “There’s not really a pressure.

URBAN DECAY EYESHADOW - YOUR IDEAL SMOKY EYE LOOK!
Take this quiz to find the perfect sultry eye makeup for your eye shape |
Smoky eye makeup is hot almost every season, but especially for spring, so answer these questions to find out how to make the look work for you. Anna Jimenez from TotalBeauty.com writes while smoky eyes parade down many runways nowadays and are the number one style for celebrity makeup on the red carpet; it's not always the easiest eye makeup look to accomplish for every eye shape. That's why we caught up with Joanna Schlip, celebrity makeup artist to stars like Eva Longoria and Christina Applegate, to get the basics on how to create this seductive eye makeup look on any eye shape. But before you learn the basics, you need to do two things. First, set the stage for dramatic eye makeup: •Before applying shadow, prime your lids with a great base try Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion Original •Apply foundation to even out your skin tone, which will allow your eyes to get all the attention. •Wear blush and lipstick shades that fall into the peach or nude family to keep your look wearable. Don't rock too many bold colors at once -- that means NO red lipstick or heavy blush. Your eye makeup should steal the show. And second, grab a hand mirror and take this quiz to determine your eye shape and then learn how to create the smoky eye for your shape. Take Quiz |
HOW TO APPLY SUNSCREEN
Now that the warm weather is here and we find ourselves spending more time outdoors it is time to start thinking about sunscreen! I came across a few helpful tips when it comes to the "How much and How often" questions that always come up when talking about applying sunscreen from the "5 ways To Save Your Skin" article in Glamour Magazine (May 2010).
Here are some sunscreen basics to keep in mind.
A. Be sure you wear sunscreen everyday and not just on the days that you find yourself lounging pool-side or beach-side. I like using a 2 in 1 facial moisturizer that contains an SFP to protect my skin. Also, be sure to apply sunscreen to all areas that are not covered with clothing.
B. Sunscreen is not one of those "apply once and you're good for the day products!" Sunscreen needs to be reapplied at least every 2 hours and more often if you get wet. According to the Glamour Magazine article, "water-resistant sunscreens sometimes only last up to 40 minutes".
C. You should periodically check your shadow. If your shadow is short this means that the sun is most intense and damaging. This is when you should cover up, find some shade or reapply your sunscreen.
D. So, how much sunscreen do I need to use? According to Dr. Marmur (in Glamour Magazine's article) "Use an SPF 30 to 50 and put enough on so that it is like you are icing yourself like a cake and be sure to rub it in well. If you don't use enough sunscreen then it is like cutting your SPF in half (SPF 20 ='s SPF 10)."
Please let me know what you think. Till then! B.
Here are a few of the sunsceens listed in the article
Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock, SPF-70, with Helioplex broad spectrum uva-uvb 3-Ounce Tubes (Pack of 3)

HOW TO APPLY SUNSCREEN SUNSCREEN
PHYTO-PHYTOBRUSH SHAMPOO
I have tried letting my hair dry naturally but all I was left with was a "natural disaster" on top of my head. I also tried to limit the amount of time that my strands are under attack from the damaging heat from my flatiron . But in doing so, I was left with unruly and misbehaved hair. So, yes, I will admit that I am totally dependant on my blow dryer and flatiron. With that being said the least I can do is use a shampoo that will help protect my fragile strands from total annihilation from my styling tools and help keep the frizz to a minimum! I have added Phytobrush Special Smoothing Shampoo For Blow-Drying to my Springtime haircare lineup so that I can continue to have beautiful looking hair that is protected from heat damage.

The
Phytobrush Special Smoothing Shampoo for Blow-Drying
, works very well on my "multiple personality hair" (my hair is color treated, fine, split ends, flat and it also has an unattractive wave thanks to my grey hairs). After using the Phytobrush Shampoo my hair is smooth, soft, shiny and I have noticed a huge improvement in the amount of damage to my hair caused by the blow dryer and flatiron. I have also tried this shampoo out on my daughters and it works great on their "non-color treated hair" as well.

In Your 30s & 40s Go for Polish
Take time to groom."You can't get away with bed head anymore," advises Townsend. "Your hair should be soft and touchable." Try Pantene Pro-V Smooth Humidity Protection Leave-In Cream ($3.99).

Try look-younger tricks. "Bangs do more than hide forehead wrinkles," explains Rita Wilson's stylist, Oscar Blandi. "They draw attention away from other facial lines." And to lift your face, Andy LeCompte advises lightly feathering hair off to the sides.
