JANUARY JONES EMMY HAIR -A DO OR A DON'T?

I love January Jones and I love her style.  However, I am not sure that I loved her hair at the Emmys.  It looked a little too "beachy" and messy for an event as formal as the Emmys. "It's not just January Jones's Emmys dress that has people divided: people are also all over her hairstyle. A lot of people (including one of our beauty editors) loved it, praising how light, flippy, and beachy it looked. Others are saying it looked "so plain" or like she had just gotten up from a nap. Just so happens, we talked to hairstylist Mark Townsend, who did Jones's hair, about the look. He says Jones wanted an "ultra feminine, yet tough and lived-in style that was far from polished" to go with her electric blue Versace gown (which, he added, she picked out of a magazine.) And, well, those people who said she looked like she slept on it? They were right! Townsend cut and styled her hair the day before so she could sleep on it. So here's how it went: on Saturday, he washed her hair, then cut it into an asymmetrical bob, leaving it longer in the back, and blew it dry. On Sunday, he went back and styled Jones's dry hair by running a foam (he likes Dove Defining Mousse) through it from roots to ends".

BRUSHLAB HAIRBRUSH AND NOVEX HAIR TREATMENT REVIEW

I recently received a complimentary sample of the Novex Brazilian Hair Treatment Cream along with the Brushlab Fresh Roll Curls Double-Pin hair brush from International Beauty Products for my review.  Here's what I found.

BE GOOD TO YOUR "DO"
Everyone needs to take the time out and treat their hair to a deep down conditioning treatment.  If you are like me and you color, flat iron, blow dry, curl your tresses or spend time out in the sun,  you need to repair and "undo" the damage that we have done to our precious locks. The Novex Brazilian hair treatment that I received can be used in 2 ways.  The first way it can be used is as a "salon inspired" deep conditioning treatment.  For this you will need a plastic metalloid cap or a salon vaporizer (don't worry, I don't have one in my home either). You let it sit for 15 -25 minutes (depending on which device you use) and then rinse well.  The other way you can use it is as a "daily conditioner", which is how I used it.  After shampooing I applied a quarter sized dollop of the Novex hair cream to my hair, let it sit for 3 minutes and then rinsed. My hair felt smooth, soft and was completely tangle free.

OH, GET A GRIP!
For some extra smoothing I used the Brushlab Fresh Roll Curls Double-Pin Brush to blow dry my hair.  The ceramic barrel evenly distributes the heat from my dryer all around the brush to prevent hot spots that can lead to hair damage.  The "Double -Pin" nylon bristles from this brush made it easy for me to lift and create unbelievable body, volume and "smoothness" without tangling my hair.  The brush also has a "Comfort Cozy" (tm) grip so that I can always keep a tight grip on my brush. Overall, after using both of these products my strands were soft, smooth, healthy looking and the signs of damage (split, dry ends) were gone. Emmy Award winners aside, what I find most interesting about the Emmy's is of course who is wearing what!  I love to see which stars hit it out of the "fashion ballpark". I also have to admit that it is as equally interesting to me to see which stars "stuck out" on the fashion front.  What would a best dressed list be without a worst dressed list anyway!

GARNIER SLEEK AND SHINE BLOW DRY PERFECTOR KIT

Just in time to help fight the frizzies that comes with heat and humidity is the Garnier Sleek and Shine Blow Dry Perfector Kit! Since posting on this product I have received many questions asking if the Garnier Blow Dry Perfector Kit really lasts through 7 washings. I have fine,"chemically dependant" (my hair is colored) semi-wavy hair. I say semi-wavy because only the hairs that "went grey" are wavy, not all my hair is wavy. I have been lucky enough to have had a very good experience with the Garnier Sleek and Shine Blow Dry Perfector Kit.

After using the Garnier Sleek and Shine Blow Dry Perfector Kit  my hair was smooth, shiny and sleek which made my blow drying and flat ironing time much easier. I found that this product did last me through 7 hair washings but you must remember that I do not have thick, coarse or curly hair. So, I am not sure if someone with "harder to control" locks would have the same long lasting results as I did. So, if any of my thick, curly, coarse haired friends out there have tried this product please leave me a comment on how the Blow Dry Perfector Kit worked for you! CLARINS INSTANT BLUSH MAGIC COLOUR

After seeing the Clarins Instant Blush Magic Colour showcased in the September edition of Allure Magazine I had to check it out for myself!  My eyes were instantly drawn to what I think is the prettiest shimmery pink that I have ever seen.  The blush itself has a smooth "creamy-gel" like consistency which makes it super easy to apply and blend with my fingertips.  The color is a very pretty "girly" pink with the just the perfect amount of shimmer.  I think that it looks much more "glittery" in the jar than when it is on your cheeks.

The Clarins Instant Blush Magic Colour gave my fair skin a very pretty "bashful blush." I found that the more layers of blush I added the more intense the pink became (good for those with deeper skin tones than mine!). After seeing how pretty it looked on my cheeks I figured that a pink this pretty would look fabulous on my lips too and you know what? ESTEE LAUDER ADVANCED NIGHT REPAIR EYE COMPLEX

I am a HUGE fan of the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair.  So much of a fan that I have even turned my hubby on to this product (I love his soft skin!). It does the best job at smoothing and evening-out our skin. Since I have had such great luck with the Advanced Night Repair the next obvious step would be to try out the Advanced Night Repair Eye Complex.

I never needed to use a special cream for my eyes, that is until I turned 35. CLINIQUE REPAIRWEAR LASER FOCUS WRINKLE & UV DAMAGE CORRECTOR

New from Clinique is their highly anticipated Repairwear Laser Focus Wrinkle & UV Damage Corrector! Basically, this is a serum that is packed full of ingredients to help correct skin "imperfections" such as sun damage, lines and wrinkles. I don't know about the rest of you but I spent WAY too much time in the sun this Summer. Most likely because we had such unbelievably beautiful weather while we were on vacation and I didn't want to waste the day indoors.  Even though I slathered on the sunscreen I still found new "sunspots" and fine lines on my skin.  Now, it all depends on how you look at things, some will say that they "earned" their fine lines and wrinkles and that they are just part of them now.  Myself, I believe that I did indeed "earn" them but now I want them gone! (Ha-Ha).

New for the Fall comes Bobbi Brown's Denim & Rose Collection which just happens to contain her fabulous Long -Wear Gel Eyeliner (love it!) in her newest shade "Denim Ink" (navy blue). With the Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner you get all the drama of a liquid eyeliner but in a gel formula. Personally, I love working with a gel eyeliner much more so than traditional liquid eyeliners! I found that the gel eyeliner goes on smoother and I get a much more even "line" than I do with liquid liners.  I also found that if I made a mistake and had to clean it up , it was much easier to clean up the mess from my gel liner than the liquid liner. Once dry, the gel eyeliner stayed in place and didn't budge until I decided it was time to take it off!

Okay, since we are headed out of summer and into fall I know that I should be talking about all the new and wonderful flavors of makeup for the Fall. However, I recently came across a summertime lip gloss that I have fallen hard for.  Clarins Instant Sun Light Click & Gloss SPF 6 comes in three "too die for" shades that not only look beautiful on but also kept my lips soft and smooth.

COVERGIRL LASHBLAST FUSION MASCARA

CoverGirl LashBlast Fusion Mascara- My oldest daughter is about to start the 7th grade this September (personally, I can't believe how fast the time has gone by!).  In recent days our conversation has mostly been centered around her wearing makeup to school.  Her conversation usually starts off with "I want to wear as much makeup as you do".  My response to her has been "no one in the 7th grade should ever wear as much makeup as I do.  Actually no one, regardless of age, should wear as much makeup as I do" (ha-ha)! But before I answered her request with a big, fat NO, I had a flashback to when I was her age and would have probably done anything to have been able to wear makeup then. So, I decided that she could wear a light shade of eyeshadow and a little mascara only on her top lashes.  It is definitely not a lot of makeup but it was just enough to make her very happy.

We choose the CoverGirl LashBlastFusion Mascara in Very Black for my daughter.  The wand is very easy to handle and the brush was just the right size for her. It did a really nice job at coating her lashes without any clumps.  By the end of the day her lashes still look fabulous! Her lashes looked so good in fact that I think I will probably start borrowing her makeup!  Please let me know what age you think girls should start wearing makeup.  Till then!  B.

L'OREAL COLLAGEN MICRO-PULSE EYE

I'VE GOT BAGGAGE!
Me first thing in the morning is not a pretty thing, mostly because of all the under eye bags and puffiness that I experience.  I am someone who sleeps on her belly.  I try soooo hard not to sleep on my belly because I know it causes my eyes to look puffy. However, no matter how hard I try to stay on my back or side I always wind up flipping over in my sleep. So, when I saw the new L'Oreal Paris Collagen Micro-Pulse Eye I was intrigued to say the least!

Basically the L'Oreal Collagen Micro-Pulse is a cream which contains "Collagen and Erasyl (tm) to help minimize the appearance of dark eye circles and crow's feet.  At the top of the Micro-Pulse tube is the true genius behind this product.  The L'Oréal Collagen Micro-Pulse Eye has its own battery operated "micro-pulse" massager that helps to massage away under eye puffiness. SCENT OF A WOMAN
Right now I am very much into "pretty", girly scents. A friend introduced me to Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf and I have been hooked ever since! Feminine , floral and very flirty is how I would describe the Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf fragrance.  Its light floral scent lingered softly on my skin all day. I received lots of compliments while wearing the Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf, it even caught my husband's attention, he loves this scent on me.   It is a bit pricey so I would consider this to be a "selfish splurge" of mine.  Please let me know what you think.  Till then!  B.

ADVANCED NIGHT REPAIR - BROWN SPOTS

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair- The many wonderful days that I spent in the sun with my family this summer has left me with a few "souvenirs" from my time at the beach.  Even though I "SPF'ed" myself ESPECIALLY my delicate decollete and shoulders (I swear the skin on those areas has gotten thinner) I have noticed that the brown spots that I just got rid of are back. In my opinion, having "age" or brown spots makes me look older than I am.  So, next summer I plan on wearing a shirt to cover my decollete and shoulders.  For now I must go back to the drawing board and work on removing those pesky spots.
