Hair removal systems like the process of waxing is a popular choice of many to remove unwanted hair for a longer period of time. While waxing is not permanent, it will keep your skin smooth and hair free for a period of 2-8 weeks depending on your hair type and regrowth patterns. Below I have listed some of the pros and cons of waxing to help you decide if waxing is for you.

The “good”
Waxing is a quick and very effective way to instantly remove unwanted hair and give you smooth, hair-free skin. You can purchase a waxing hair removal system and DIY in the privacy of your home or you can have a professional do it for you in a spa setting.

The “bad”
It hurts! However, if done correctly and QUICKLY it does not hurt as much as we anticipate that it will. Also, waxing hurts a little less each time you have it done. If you can’t see yourself ripping that wax strip off as fast as it needs to, then you may want to skip the DIY waxing and opt for a professional to do the “dirty work” instead.

The “ugly”
After waxing you may experience pain, redness, bruising and bumps on the areas that were waxed. The good news is that for most of us these symptoms disappear within 24-48 hours.

Some special tips to consider before and after waxing.
1. Skip the tanning salon, sunbathing, public swimming pools, saunas and hot tubs for at least 24 hours to avoid skin irritation and infections.
2. From Cosmopolitan Magazine, “Pop a couple Aspirin 45 minutes before the appointment. This is a brilliant ouch!-reducing strategy because not only do over-the-counter painkillers like Aspirin and Ibuprofen help reduce the feeling of pain, but they have anti-inflammatory components too.”
3. Also from Cosmopolitan Magazine, “Schedule your appointment between 3 and 5 p.m.Your pain threshold is the highest at this point in the day.”

Please let me know what hair removal systems are your favorite. Till then! B.
